What Technology Will Look Like by 2030
What’s the Latest Development?
A new report from the National Intelligence Community makes some educated guesses about what technological advancements will be made in the not-too-distant future. Among them is the prediction that social networks will become decentralized away from hubs like Facebook and Twitter toward more “anarchic collectives” over which state governments will wield little leverage. On renewable energy technologies, the report all but predicts the end of competitive solar energy, stating the government’s investments in solar may well fail given the uptick in natural gas mining.
What’s the Big Idea?
On the medical frontier, substantial advances are expected to occur in hardware and software. Exoskeletons are predicted to help the elderly cope with physical degeneration and “so-called ‘neuro-enhancements’ could boost your memory and how quickly you think, while retinal eye implants might give you enhanced night vision.” And by 2030, the report predicts that personalized medicine will be facilitated by molecular diagnostic devices that “will revolutionize medicine by providing a rapid means of testing for both genetic and pathogenic diseases during surgeries.”
