Can China Build World’s Tallest Building in 10 Months?

Chinese developer Zhang Yue is planning to build the world’s next tallest building, which he has dubbed “Sky City”. The building aims to be a self-contained city, holding 30,000 people while providing all the amenities of a large community. “Zhang wants to create, as its name suggests, a truly functional vertical city in the middle of a rural area. With its one million square meters, the 208 floors will include apartments, schools, malls, hotels, restaurants, parks, swimming pools, movie theaters, hospitals and even a promenade to take a stroll from the ground level to the 169th floor.”
What’s the Big Idea?
By relying on prefabricated building materials, Yue and the Chinese conglomerate he represents, called Broad Group, believe they can complete construction in just ten months. By comparison, the world’s current tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, took more than five years to complete. “On a technical level, worries include the seismic resistance of the building. Broad Group insists that its building would resist an earthquake of 9.0 on the Richter scale. There are also questions about evacuation procedures in case of a fire.”
