Dan Ariely, the author of “Predictably

Irrational

” and “The

Upside of Irrationality

” stopped by Big Think’s offices yesterday

to talk a little about the findings in his new book, touching on, among

other things, why companies that give big bonuses don’t necessarily get

better performance out of their employees; why we tend to overvalue

things that we create ourselves; the inherent altruism in revenge; and

the futility of online dating.

Ariely is no stranger to Big Think.  He’s appeared on the site before to

talk about everything from how

we can make money less abstract

to  how we can use guilt to get

people to reduce their carbon footprints

.
