Time-Lapse of Brilliant Auroras Over Norway

The auroras appear mostly green, as high energy particles hitting the Earth’s atmosphere cause the air to glow as electrons resettle into their oxygen hosts.

One of the largest auroral displays in recent years appeared over Norway in 2011, captured in the time-lapse video below. These auroras appear mostly green, as high energy particles hitting the Earth’s atmosphere cause the air to glow as electrons resettle into their oxygen hosts.
