Kidnappings in Yemen (Updated)

In our unceasing quest to bring you everything that the contributors to Waq al-waq write and say in print (it really is a tireless task) we bring you this post. First, here is my instant analysis of the kidnappings for the Independent.

Second, there is the piece from Christian Science Monitor.

Finally, there is this piece from Mohammed al-Qadhi on the kidnappings – I’m not quoted but it is still a good piece – funny how those things can go together.

One note on the al-Qadhi piece he quotes Said al-Jamhi, an author of a must read book for anyone interested in al-Qaeda in Yemen:

“I do not dismiss the possibility of involvement by al Houthis in this incident, for this is an area of their influence and control and because al Qa’eda is not so frustrated to resort to such operations,” said Mr al Jamhi.

This, I think, is just wrong. If it turns out that AQAP is behind the attack I don’t think it will be out of frustration.
