Solar Trap: Chemical-Free, Solar-Powered Pest Control

Pest control is typically associated with toxic chemicals and considered an antithesis to organic farming. But South Korean company Eco Solatec may be able to change that. Their Solar Trap pest controller uses a solar-powered BLB lamp to attract insects and trap them in a net with a powerful fan.

The solar panel, which can also charge in cloudy weather, requires five hours of charging to provide 8 hours of battery life and a digital timer can be used to pre-program the trap around pest peak times. A smart optical sensor system allows for automatic charging during the day, activates the trap during nighttime and automatically deactivates it during rain.

Solar Trap, which requires no external electricity and poses no health hazard to humans, can be used anywhere from farms to public parks to golf courses.
