Dr. Lucky
Burlesque Performer, NYU Professor
Dr. Lucky is a Ph.D. and faculty member at New York University, where she teaches "The History of American Burlesque." In class, her students learn to think critically about burlesque and also to take their clothes off on stage—for credit! She is a regular fixture of the New York City burlesque scene herself, known for her unique comedic timing, over-the-top theatricality, and glamorous excess. She has headlined the New York Burlesque Festival and the Toronto Burlesque Festival and has been featured on NPR, Time, Bust Magazine, and The Washington Post.
The new film does not, as the director has claimed, portray “original” burlesque. It should just be called “Nightclub,” says the burlesque scholar.
