The Guardian condenses the more than 90,000 intelligence documents leaked out of the Pentagon concerning the war in Afghanistan; Wikileaks published the documents online. The intelligence reports document the day-to-day in Afghanistan which entails civilian casualties, accidents and friendly fire. The White House has condemned the publication of these intelligence reports as “irresponsible”. Julian Assange, the face and founder of Wikileaks, has defended his move to publicize the documents as the act of a responsible journalist holding authority accountable. The Guardian, The New York Times and Der Spiegel were given access to the documents weeks before today’s stories were published.
