Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) was the first post-war Chancellor of West Germany, a position he held from 1949-1963. Under his leadership, Germany allied with the NATO nations and saw its economy rise from the ashes of World War II. Adenauer, who was Time’s Man of the Year in 1953, is often credited with starting Germany on the road that has made it so successful today.
“In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity.”
-Konrad Adenauer
