As subscribers to Big Think’s YouTube channel know, we are proud participants this week in the first ever YouTube Geek Week, which is showcasing new videos, creative collaborations and all things geek through August 10.

So why Geek Week?

In May, YouTube experimented with a week-long content approach by rolling out Comedy Week. This week’s theme is an acknowledgement that geeks truly run the world, or, as Star Trek director J. J. Abrams put it: “When I was a kid, it was a huge insult to be a geek. Now it’s a point of pride in a weird way.”

Many of the videos you will find on the YouTube hub feature superheroes, comics, gaming, science and sci-fi. The videos Big Think is offering this week explore the concepts of time, thought experiments, cosmology, the Singularity and much more.

Today, in fact, is being billed as Brainiac Tuesday, in which YouTube’s EDU and knowledge community “comes together for a day of real science, crazy experiments and beautiful numbers.”

We hope you will take part in helping geekiness take over YouTube, by visiting our channel here, the Geek Week hub here, and join the #GeekierThanYou Twitter conversation.
