It’s the end of the year–which means I’m reflecting on all manner of things.  It’s been an incredible year for me.  DIRTY MINDS: HOW OUR BRAINS INFLUENCE LOVE, SEX AND RELATIONSHIPS came out in January.  (As an interesting aside, it will come out in paperback come March 2013 as THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON SEX: THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SEARCH FOR LOVE – you can pre-order it now).  I talked an awful lot about love, relationships–and even more about orgasms.  I even got spoofed for doing talking so much about orgasms on the Soup.  (That means I arrived, right?!)  I got to tour the country, visit some incredible independent bookstores and meet some inspiring neuroscientists.  I learned a lot.

It’s made me realize that I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store–especially when it comes to neuroscience research.

But in looking back over what I’ve written on this blog, I was surprised to see how many of the different studies I covered still excited me. It was a good year for challenging old assumptions and opening up new avenues of research.  It provided a lot of food for thought–and a lot of fun, funny and amazing things to consider and write about.

So, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite BigThink posts for 2012.

What’s Right With the Teenage Mind?

Can We Train Away Schizophrenic Symptoms?

Breast Behavior:  A Q&A with Katie Hinde

The “Magical” Properties of Semen

Rethinking Monogamy

The Matter of Einstein’s Brain

The Power of Empathy

Do you happen to have a favorite?  I’d love to know–it can help me plan what I should be thinking about and writing here in 2013.  Let’s hear it.

And, most importantly, happy new year!
