Peggielene Bartels was working as a secretary at Ghana’s Embassy in Washington D.C. when she got a phone call informing her that she had been crowned king of Otuam, a Ghanaian fishing village. The night before, her uncle had died and sacred rituals revealed Peggy to be the next king of Otuam. She accepted, and now the “commuter king” divides her time between Ghana and D.C. She chronicles her irresistible Cinderella story in King Peggy: An American Secretary, Her Royal Destiny, and the Inspiring Story of How She Changed an African Village.
On Monday, February 27th, she’ll be visiting our studio at 2 PM to talk about her transformation from ordinary secretary to the hope and heart of her community. A segment of the interview will be livestreamed here at BigThink.com, and we’ll be asking her questions that come directly from you, our readers.
Please submit your questions for King Peggy by writing them in the comments section below, or email them to megan@bigthink.com.
