Would You Work for a Tobacco Company?

Some students take the position that the best way to change an organization is from the inside. Therefore, going to work for a company that, for instance, produces tobacco products, is the best way to affect change.

What constitutes a “socially irresponsible” company? Most students, according to an informal survey that was shared at Harvard Business Review, believe that companies that abuse the environment or create harmful products fit that category.


However, some students took the position that the best way to change an organization is from the inside. Therefore, going to work for a company that, for instance, produces tobacco products, is the best way to affect change.
