Rave reviews in the West End were followed by an equally positive reception on Broadway and now its producers say the latest production of Hamlet (starring British heart throb Jude Law in the titular role) is also a success commercially, having clawed back its $2.5m costs in less than three months. Producer Arielle Tepper Madover said: ”It’s heartening to see that Shakespeare can be a commercial success on Broadway, as well as seeing so many young audience members at the Broadhurst (Theatre) experiencing their first Shakespeare production.” She credits some of the production’s success with Law’s pull as a big name Hollywood actor. His success is laudable given the difficult nature of the “make or break” Shakespearean role.
