What’s the Latest Development?

E La Carte has released a new and improved version of its Presto tableside tablet, customizing it for heavy restaurant use. As with the previous version, users can browse the menu, make their selections (which are sent to the kitchen via wi-fi), play games while waiting for their food, and pay with the built-in credit card reader. In addition, the hardware has been redesigned to look and feel like part of the table itself, and an LED button has been added that changes color based on table status.

What’s the Big Idea?

The Silicon Valley-based startup has to date secured over $5 million in funding from major investors, with others reportedly waiting in the wings. Currently it has 1,000 Presto tablets deployed but it expects to roll out many more in signed deals with restaurants and other hospitality businesses. According to founder Rajat Suri, the tablets are generating almost $1 million in new value. “It’s not just in the actual tablet hardware, but it’s also about using data to control what’s offered on the menu and being able to dynamically change menu options based on demand, inventory and more.”
