Growing up with Midwestern values.
Question: Who are you?
Mitt Romney: Mitt Romney. I was born in Detroit, Michigan; moved to a more rural area of Michigan after I was about five or six years old. And you know I’ve always been a Midwesterner at heart. I fell in love with automobiles a long time ago. I care about cars. I worked on a ranch in Idaho. That gave me some perspective on different parts of the country; and was raised by a wonderful mom and dad that were very involved politically in Michigan even though their life was in the private sector. So your . . . your perspectives in life, of course, begin with the places you’re raised and the kind of home that you’re raised in. And I’m . . . I’m pleased that I was able to receive the kind of values that are, if you will, the Midwestern values that, in many respects, define the heartland and define American values generally.
