Rubell likes a good knife and a heavy pan. She can live without appliances.

Jennifer Rubell: Yeah I’m a real low-tech person.  A good knife is almost everything, and good, heavy pans.  But you know I buy my pans in thrift shops because somehow they don’t have a great secondhand market.  So you can get really cheap, really great pans in thrift shops.  But good, heavy pans, a good knife . . .  Oh!  Sheet pans which are really standardly used in restaurant kitchens that, for some reason, are not really used in home kitchens too much – I cook everything from roasted meat on a sheet pan, to cookies, to roasted vegetables.  Almost everything I cook in the oven I cook on a sheet pan.
